Youth Ministry

We are a community of middle school (6th-8th grade) and high school (9th-12th grade) teens, adults, and parents centered on and strengthened by a relationship with Jesus and the Catholic Church.

We desire to empower young people to be aware of the blessings of God in our community and encourage the development of their talents and gifts for the unique mission God has for their lives. We empower teens to grow in holiness through Scripture, the Sacraments, prayer/praise and worship, retreats, and weekly ministry opportunities. Spiritual, service, and social activities are offered. For more information or to sign up for our monthly newsletter, contact: Erica Maloney, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, 314-965-3985 x2820 or youthministry@sgmparish.org.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are in the Lower Level of the Majella Parish Office (AKA: LL Majella).  Enter through the back door (by the playground).

St. Gerard Majella Youth Ministry Update

As many of you know, Mrs. Erica Maloney has been serving as the parish youth minister for the past seven years, and her work has touched the lives of many middle school and high school parishioners who have turned to SGM to meet Christ. Erica recently shared the news that she and her family will be moving to Florida, where she will continue her service to God as the Director of Faith Formation and Family Ministries in a parish in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. Obviously, that’s a big change and a great opportunity, and we thank Erica for her generous service to our parish over the years. May the Lord continue to guide you and your family, and may St. Gerard Majella intercede for you as you continue your service to the Church!

This is also a big change for St. Gerard Majella parish, and since learning of the news, we have been focused on a search for our next Coordinator of Youth Ministry. This is an important role in our parish, and is much more than simply buying pizza and playing games with teenagers!  The youth ministry program focuses on fostering the spiritual growth of each young person in middle school
and high school by cultivating a sacramental life, developing an appreciation for our Catholic faith, and helping teens to know their identity as beloved children of God.  This is not only the future of our Catholic Church, but the present, and so we take seriously the importance of finding the right person for our parish.

Fr. Rubie has assembled a great team to interview candidates in the following weeks and months, but I’m asking for your prayerful support of our search, that God would guide us and support us in our ministry to the youth of our parish. If you know someone who might be interested, please invite them to think and pray over it, and reach out to me for more information!
