SGM Preschool Typical Day

Our children can arrive as early as 7:30 am. They are brought to the gym by their parents.  Upon entering the gym, they are greeted by the teacher assistants and invited to interact with other preschoolers.  At 7:50 the students are met by their classroom teacher and move to their primary classroom. We begin each day with Table Time and then once everyone is settled in, the class moves to Circle Time. We start with a prayer and lead into a discussion of the weather, the day and daily opportunities to explore, inquire and problem solve.  Then they move into centers to continue learning through exploring their theme or inquiy question.  While in centers, teachers work in small groups, focusing on literacy, math, science, art or dramatic play for three 10 minute segments and then invite free choice for about 20 minutes.  The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a music class lead by Mrs. Melissa Okenfuss and a Yoga Class with Jessica Kerhoff are incorported once a week.  Each class then enjoys a snack and works on gross motor skills on our outdoor playground or by riding bikes.  Prior to dismissal, the students come together to discuss the day's work and look to tomorrow prior to reading a story.  They end thier day with a prayer.  The children are dismissed at 11:00am to their parents.
