SGM’s St. Vincent dePaul Society agreed to help a Haitian family who have legally immigrated into the US, and now live within our parish boundaries. This family has a sister, who immigrated 30 years ago and has been working at a local elderly assisted living facility as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Her employer has agreed to hire her family members once they have work permits.
Our SGM SVdP council will be paying for rent and groceries for at least 3 months we have already supplied beds and furniture through St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Store. We also supplied a used washer and dryer in excellent condition. We are not sure how soon this family of 6 will be able to get work permits. We anticipate 3 months at the least, with the probability that it will take longer. The family is lovely and are Catholic. Once they are more fluent in English, they are excited to attend mass at SGM.
We have contacted Catholic Charities, International Institute, and other SVdP Parish Councils looking for immigration and financial assistance, but unfortunately we are coming up short. There is a great need, but resources are lacking. We are asking the generous parishioners of SGM for donations to SVDP so that we can continue to assist our Neighbors in Need in Immaculate Conception in Maplewood, St Pius V in the city, the parish of St. Vincent dePaul, as well as those in our parish boundaries. We have also assisted mothers-in-need with rent, groceries, and baby beds and clothing. We appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Blessings,
SGM St. Vincent dePaul Society
