A feature of a Cub Scouting Program is the Pinewood Derby, for boys and girls, ages K-5th grade. As an effort to gauge interest in starting this family-centered program in our Parish, this Derby is scheduled for Sunday April 27 from 1 pm until 3 pm. The youth, boys and girls, with their families, build a qualified Pinewood Derby car, and have it raced on the track at SGM. Volunteers will operate the track and racing. Awards will be given in 3 categories—the fastest cars per grade level, most original design, or Cub Scout special using blue and gold colors. There are requirements for enabling competed cars to be qualified to be entered into the racing competition: length, width, height, and weight. There will be an instructional workshop hosted to answer questions from families on Saturday, March 29, as well as a time for adults to set up and test the track and components. Derby Car kits will be provided; and available for pick up with registration at SGM Fish Fry Boy Scout station Friday, March 14 and Friday, March 21. Fun with a purpose! See what it takes to help the children grow, become engaged and smile. Questions? Contact Paul Andrew miraalcielo@icloud.com and you can also visit https://scoutlife.org/pinewood-derby/.
