Twice a year, the SGM conference of St. Vincent De Paul runs a clothing drive to collect donations for the local thrift stores. SGM parishioners have always been very generous in their donations, but what they may not know is that their donations generate store vouchers used to help the most needy in our community. Based on the quantity of items donated during each clothing drive (which also includes collection of household goods), the SVDP thrift store gives SGM credit vouchers that are good for any of the SVDP store locations. When SGM Vincentians they meet with “neighbors in need”, these vouchers are then provided to acquire furniture, bedding, clothing and other items that are deemed necessary for a more comfortable lifestyle.
Unfortunately, the shelter in place rules have resulted in the cancellation of the SGM spring clothing drive, but it has also motivated people to do thorough spring cleaning of their closets and basements. We are working to schedule another clothing and collection drive, so please hold your donations until then – we’ll communicate the dates as soon as possible! The thrift stores appreciate all donations, but the SGM SVDP Society only earns credits for donations made via the clothing drives (and SGM can provide donation receipts, too). Thanks for your help in helping our neighbors in need!
