Help Needed With Church Sanitation

St Gerard Majella Parish, with the resumption of public Masses, is asking for a crew of five adult (18 years of age or older) volunteers to sanitize the Church after each of the weekend Masses.  Cleaning after weekday Masses will be conducted by the parish janitorial staff.

The scheduled Mass times are: Saturday 9am and 5pm; Sunday 7am, 9am, and 11 am.  There may be funeral services on a Saturday that require sanitizing as well by a crew of parish volunteers.

Our Pastor, Fr. Skillman sent out the SGM Guidelines for Public Mass During Pandemic via email to Parishioners on Wednesday, May 13, and is now on the Parish Website under general news at:

Guidelines For Public Mass During Pandemic

The need for Volunteers to perform sanitization of the Church will need to commence Saturday May 24, after the 9am Mass, and following each of the Masses during the weekend.  Those who form the sanitizing crew for after a particular Mass will have a seat reserved for that mass.

The duties of the 5 person adult sanitizing crew will be:

Spray and wipe down with disinfectant all pews and surfaces frequently used (door handles, and restroom counters) at the conclusion of each Mass.  Sanitizing equipment (spray and wipes) and gloves will be provided by the Parish.

As the procedures for attending Mass have been published, sanitizing work will commence immediately after the conclusion of the Mass.

For those who are willing and interested in serving our Parish in this volunteer capacity, we ask each Volunteer to provide and wear their own face mask and adhere to the safe social distance standard of 6 feet from fellow parishioners not of your immediate family.  The nave will be closed during the cleaning process.

We will set up a rotating schedule for each week for Volunteers, using the Parish’s sign up web system:

Church Sanitation Signup

The schedule will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
